When the Light Disappears

Eclipse energies are powerful portals of change.

For a few extraordinary moments, the golden light fades and we’re invited to see through different eyes. What once felt certain begins to shift. New perspectives emerge. Foundations we’ve stood upon are questioned and, before we realise it, our pathways have already started to change.

This year, on August 12th, parts of Mallorca will witness the solar eclipse directly.

There’s something deeply symbolic about that.

An island celebrated for its extraordinary light, meeting its own shadow, if only for a few moments. A reminder that even the lands known for their golden rays of light move through seasons of reflection, reckoning and renewal.

Over recent years, the conversation across the island has grown louder. There’s been a deeper questioning of how we care for this place, how we honour its beauty and how we protect what makes Mallorca so unique. The relationship between the island and those who call it home, whether for a season or a lifetime, is evolving. Perhaps we’re all being invited to consider what it truly means to belong to a place rather than simply pass through it.

Perhaps that’s the invitation this eclipse brings.

To become more conscious of what we’re creating.

What we’re protecting and what we’re nourishing.

And most importantly what we’re no longer willing to lose.

How do we honour what we love?

Whether that’s the land beneath our feet.

The people closest to us.

Or the parts of ourselves we’ve neglected through busyness, expectation or fear.

Eclipses have a remarkable way of revealing what we’ve struggled to see. They illuminate the places where something has become unsustainable, where truth has been waiting beneath the surface, asking to be acknowledged.

The energy of Leo reminds us to lead with heart.

To act with courage.

To remember that true leadership isn’t found in being seen, but in taking responsibility for what we’ve been entrusted to care for.

Perhaps that’s true of the island.

And perhaps it’s true of us, too.

This isn’t a time to fear the shadow.

It’s a time to become curious about what it’s trying to reveal.

Because every shadow carries wisdom.

And every return of the light offers us the opportunity to move forwards with greater awareness than we had before.
